Sunday Lunch at Home

I wrote a couple of weeks ago about how friendships seem to cost money, as often the only time we have to spend with friends is going out to lunch after church. I wanted to start doing more at-home lunches, but I don't cook on Sundays. I figure the crockpot, prepped the night before, will be my best solution to this dilemma. But this Sunday, it was a youth fundraiser at church that helped me out.

We have a casserole sale at church each spring to raise money for youth camp. It's an easy fundraiser that merely entails buying disposable foil baking pans and passing them out at church. People bring them back filled on the allotted day, and we sell them. We charged $12 for 9x13 casseroles and $8 for 8x8 desserts. The sale was highly successful.

Steven and I invited our friends over for lunch to share in the eating of the casseroles. I purchased two casseroles and two desserts. Some of our friends brought over what they'd purchased, too. I'd prepped stuff for a salad the night before, so getting food put together was simple and kept to my no-cooking-on-Sundays rule.

Okay, so it was actually more expensive for us than going out to a restaurant, but that's okay because in this case, the money we paid helps with youth-camp costs. It was a start towards eating at home with friends after church.



The dishes were left to be dealt with on Monday.
