Cheap Finds

Steven mentioned this past weekend that he wanted a plate and some silverware to keep at work. Seeing as there was no way I'd let him bring our china or silverware to work, and he didn't need anything fancy or expensive or even all that nice-looking, we headed to Goodwill.

I hate Corelle. If you're reading this, and your dishes are Corelle, I mean no offense. I've just never personally liked the stuff. But I figured it was a good option for Steven's needs. Microwave safe and virtually indestructable if it accidentally gets dropped or otherwise mistreated. Steven rejected the first few Corelle finds, which were obvious examples of the awful 80s country phase, complete with mauve-and-country-blue hearts and bows. I didn't blame him at all for passing on that. He settled instead on what appeared to be a castoff of the 70s. Still ugly, but not as blatant:

The silverware is all mismatched, but again, that's okay. He just wanted something that didn't taste funky. (His office has disposable utensils available for the employees, but it's all eco-friendly stuff made from biodegradable potato starch. He says it has a weird taste. Forks shouldn't have a flavor.)

I had no intentions of picking up anything for me, but then I saw this perfect copy of J.K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard for $1:

It was a very cheap way to add to the bookshelves and keep paper plates and plastic utensils out of the landfill.

ick - that is so funny, and I agree, forks should not have a flavor!

Love that Goodwill! I don't think I've ever tried the "potato starch" utensils. That would be interesting... Hey, at least they're trying!

That book cost me $9!!!! You lucky duck! Great find!

Oh, and I totally agree that forks should not have flavors! At least, if you aren't at a kids party and it is dipped in chocolate or something.
