The Furminator--Part 2

I wrote last week about the Furminator, which I bought because Calvin was throwing up some monster hairballs. My initial review was positive. It still is--for Calvin. He loves it, and it's really helped him with the hairball issue.

Doogie is another story, though. He doesn't hate the Furminator, but he's not in love with it like he is with his flea comb. I used the Furminator on him tonight, as he's shedding a lot. I was appalled to discover that it cut his hair short. He's not a long-haired cat, but he's definitely not a short-haired cat. He's somewhere in the middle with long-ish fur. Not anymore. He looks like I took him to the barber and gave him a haircut.

I don't know if you can really see in that photo, but I'm trying to show how short his fur is now. I'm not happy. He doesn't look bad; he just looks a little different. Thankfully, he doesn't seem bothered by his new look, but his mama is not pleased at all!

So, to sum it up: Furminator for short fur--good. Furminator for long-ish fur--bad.

Annie, I had 2 cats with awful hairball problems and we used to take them both to the vet and get them shaved - on purpose! It helped a lot. Maybe the furminator's not such a bad thing. See if the hairballs happen less often. :)

Hopefully he'll stay away from mirrors for awhile, otherwise he might be a little upset with you!

Glad you noticed that - looks like it would've been painful. He cetainly took it well!

I have used the FURminator on my long haired dog for 3 years and it has never cut his fur... if you look at the fur that comes off you can tell that its not been cut because of the way it looks. I am a FURminator freak!! Make sure that your long hair cat has been brushed first so there are no tangles (I have to do that with my doggie)... but I am positive and would bet money that your FURminator isn't cutting... my dog's coat can't be cut due to the breed he is and I use the FURminator weekly. Best wishes to you!!

Wow, thanks for the update! Maybe I'll take the furminator off my mental list of things to buy someday...
Hopefully Doogie's fur will grow back soon - maybe you can tell him it's his "summer haircut."
