Ten years ago today

October 10, 1997 started out badly. I woke at 8:35am. The school I taught in started at 7:10am. Not good! First period was my conference period, so it's not like I had a classroom full of unsupervised 9th graders, but still... I called the office, threw clothes on, and raced to the school just in time to give a mid-semester exam to my 2nd period class. Whew!

A morning start like that just seems to make the whole day feel like one big mess. I was frazzled because the kids wanted their report card grades once I'd graded their exams. Things were not as high tech 10 years ago, and I was doing grades by hand with a calculator. A little time consuming, especially with 35 kids in each class hovering to find out their grades.

One very significant event that evening turned this day from very bad to exceptionally good: It was my first ever date with the man who would become my husband. Ruf and I can now officially say that we've been together for a decade. That sounds like forever, and yet, it hasn't felt long at all. Life is good.
