WFMW: Flour and sugar storage

With the cost of groceries on the rise, I stock up on stuff when it goes on sale. Flour and sugar come in paper bags, and I don't want bugs to get in them while waiting to be used. I buy bread bags ($1 on sale for a box of 75 bags) and put my bags of flour and sugar in them. This seals them off, which keeps critters out. It also ensures that if they come home with bugs in them (hasn't happened yet, but you never know), they won't spread to any other dry goods being stored. It works for me!

That is a great tip. Where do you buy those? Regular grocery stores? I have problems with the critters getting in too :(

I buy them at Albertson's, which is a grocery store here in TX. I just buy the store brand.

I've never seen those bags before, thanks!

Great idea--I use the gallon size ziploc bags, but the bread bags are much less expensive! I'll have to look for them--thanks!

I've never seen those, will have to look for them. That would be better than the ziploc type, because grains of flour and such are always getting into the seal, leaving gaps for bugs to get in.

Make sure they hit the freezer (24 hours at least) before storing them away. That will deal with any bugs that happen to pop up.
