Submission

The small groups at our church have been studying 1 Peter, and the pastor has been preaching on it, as well. The word submit is used multiple times throughout. Slaves submit to your masters, wives submit to your husbands, submit to authorities... The pastor even mentioned that when 1 Peter 3:7 says for husbands to be considerate as they live with their wives, he said this is also a form of submission, as consideration typically means putting someone else's needs before your own.

He gave a great definition for submission that I thought was just too good not to share. He said submission is the courage to graciously let someone else have their way. It is not mindless compliance, as people so often believe.

He said an easy way to practice submission is to ask people you're around, whether your spouse, your coworkers, your supervisor, "What can I do to make your day better?" Admittedly, I'm typically more concerned with how others can make my day better, so this sermon was definitely hitting home with me! Definitely an area which could use some work in my life. If we all lived this way, imagine how much nicer our world would be!

That is really good! Hopefully your pastor's way of explaining it will help women understand and not get super defensive when they read "submit to your husband."

I like that! Another friend shared it in a helpful way: trusting your husband to have your best interest at heart.
