The Upside of the Economy

As I drove home from the rheumatologist's office yesterday, I listened to Dave Ramsey's show on the radio. Someone called in to give the positive side of the current economy: all the great bargains out there for those with cash to spend. I found myself nodding in agreement as I listened.

I did a little wardrobe update for Steven and me recently. Between the current sale at Old Navy on basics (my favorite Perfect-Fit Tees for only $5!) and some great prices at J.C. Penney, I've purchased quite a bit of clothing for the two of us. My Easter dress for this year was a true bargain at 60% off--and that's the new spring line, not the clearance rack with clothes from the previous season. I've spent very little and come home with a lot.

We have a Crate & Barrel outlet in Dallas, and as it's very near my rheumatologist's office, I stopped in. I was specifically looking for a water bottle, and the store didn't disappoint. Here's what I found:

That would be two Sigg water bottles for only $6.50 each. Perfect for taking to school with me, as they won't leak in my sub bag.

I also picked up these:

Four spatulas packaged together for only $9.95. I'll keep two for myself, and set the others aside for small gifts.

While I am sorry for the workers of retailers who are currently struggling, I'm finding it to be a real help to our own budget when looking for things we need or even just want. There is an upside to a down economy.

Anne Marie,

That is a great deal on those water bottles. I'll be curious to hear if you like them.

I did a bit of clearance shopping myself at Kohl's since I had a 20% off my entire purchase coupon. I usually buy ahead for my girls, so it's great to get deals on next year's winter clothes...plus a few new items for me!! :)

I'm on everyone's mailing list, and every day I get tons of coupons, free shipping offers, etc. Land's End has been sending me "last day!" emails for a whole month now. Unfortunately, I'm not in the market for a car or other big purchases. And I wish the price of food would follow the dropping price of everything else!
